The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing our Brimfield facility. We are a FDA registered Medical Device Manufacturer focusing on high-precision metal machining of surgical implants and instrumentation.
The Operations Manager is a member of the Plant Leadership Team and will have 3 Supervisors reporting directly to him/her along with a broader team of 75 machinists and finishers. The Operations Manager will be responsible for driving Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost through the organization utilizing Continuous Improvement and strong leadership skills.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the facilities organization and personnel to most effectively achieve customer expectations.
- Maintain the Quality System and profit targets while maximizing productivity.
- Lead the development and execution of facility operating plans.
- Manage manufacturing, distribution and support overhead functions to deliver product and services at or above customer expectations.
- Create and manages a culture of continuous improvement, installing and successfully executing advanced visual, flow manufacturing systems.
- Create and maintain a safety culture by leading EHS initiatives and supporting the EHS committee
- Ability to work with Supply chain Manager to develop and execute Capacity Plans supported by present ERP systems and customer forecasts
- Work collaboratively with Engineering and Quality to successfully and seamlessly deliver to customers an integrated set of services and products.
- Support Sales activities within the facility including quoting and customer service.
- Work collaboratively with Director of Operations to successfully and seamlessly deliver to customers an integrated set of services and products.
- Be a resource and mentor to other members of the management team, with a responsibility to develop people.
- Recommends and executes personnel actions including hiring, promotions, performance reviews and any disciplinary measures
- Responsible for implementing cost improvement programs through Lean Manufacturing techniques and drive successful business excellence programs for manufacturing.
- Ensures output, timeliness, quality and cost to standards are consistent with customer requirements and company strategy
- Determines and implements operational capability required to support corporate growth and strategies.
- Reduce manufacturing operations costs through innovation and productivity.
- Create a culture that strives for perfect fill-rates and zero defects.
- Complies with all work rules including those pertaining to safety, health, quality and Quality Management System.
- Performs other duties as necessary.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of proven leadership experience in a world-class manufacturing environment, preferably industry experience in aerospace, automotive, or medical devices (preferred), or any regulated manufacturing environment.
- Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments, with the ability to manage complexity and variability in production processes.
- Strong knowledge of machining, metal and plastic processing, fabrication, and product assembly.
- Proven experience in production and capacity planning, including labor capacity planning.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and data management systems.
- Experience with Kinaxis and ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP.
- Strong knowledge and commitment to safety programs, including EHS (Environmental, Health & Safety) compliance.
- Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification and/or experience with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Ability to effectively manage diverse manufacturing styles and personalities, integrating the benefits of experience with modern technologies, approaches, and processes.
- Demonstrated leadership, team-building, and high-performance team development skills.
- Skilled in customer interaction, problem-solving, and driving solutions to meet customer requirements.
- In-depth knowledge of FDA Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO 13485:2003, and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Hands-on leader with a track record of building and sustaining high-performing teams.
- Solid understanding of P&L management, value drivers, and experience in developing and executing operating plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both one-on-one and in group settings.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop long-term plans and conceptualize the facility’s future (6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years).
- Rational thinker with sound business judgment and decision-making skills.

Potential salary range for this role is $115-$135k. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
