Job Description
The Technical Writer II is responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing technical documentation that supports operational, training, and project needs. This role works closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), training teams, and technical stakeholders to ensure procedures, work instructions, and training materials are accurate, current, and accessible. The position requires strong technical writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain technical procedures, work instructions, and supporting documentation.
- Implement updates and revisions to procedures based on input from subject matter experts.
- Review and update procedures following periodic revalidation to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Track and follow up on requests for creation or revision of technical documentation.
- Collaborate with SMEs to create and edit Worker Assessment documents related to knowledge and skills requirements.
- Manage and maintain Worker Assessment documentation within training and document management systems.
- Ensure all procedures and assessment materials are current, accurate, and readily available to users.
- Coordinate with training teams to support and maintain training curricula within learning management systems.
- Support document control processes to ensure proper versioning, approvals, and accessibility.
- Develop technical training materials and modules for field-based and technical roles.
- Interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and technical references to support document development.
- Participate in field visits as needed to gather information and validate procedures.
- Work effectively in both team-based and independent environments to meet documentation timelines.
Skills And Qualifications
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and related documentation tools.
- Strong understanding of document management systems and document control processes.
- Experience developing operating procedures, maintenance procedures, work instructions, and training materials.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and in multicultural environments.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience working with subject matter experts in scientific, engineering, or technical disciplines.
- Technical, engineering, science, or mechanical-related degree preferred.
- Hands-on experience with tools or field equipment is a plus.
- Prior technical writing experience preferred; extensive experience is not required.
- Willingness to travel, including field visits (estimated up to 40%).
- Ability to work in a field-based and office-based environment as needed.
Job Details
Pay: $60 per hour
Location: Midland, TX or Houston, TX
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, Travel/Field visits if needed
