About Capsule
Capsule is building an AI-powered memory companion that helps people preserve their stories, voice, and personality—and enables families to interact with that legacy for generations. We sit at the intersection of AI, psychology, design, and storytelling.
Capsule is transitioning from a web-based MVP into a full application experience. Our users want to capture memories naturally (on walks, at dinner, with family), and mobile is central to that vision.
The Role
We’re hiring a Mobile App Engineer to own the transition from our web app into a polished, App Store-ready iOS and Android experience. You’ll make Capsule feel native, fast, and emotionally intuitive, especially for flows involving audio capture, playback, and AI-driven interactions.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the architecture and build of our iOS and Android apps (from foundation to launch) within the first 90 days.
- Translate our web MVP into mobile-native experiences (navigation, gestures, system UI patterns, performance).
- Ship to production: App Store / Play Store submissions, compliance, release management, and iteration cycles.
- Optimize performance and reliability across audio recording/playback, streaming or real-time interactions, and AI response rendering.
- Partner closely with design and product to implement high-craft UI and smooth motion/animations.
- Establish engineering best practices: code quality, testing strategy, CI/CD, analytics instrumentation, crash reporting, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with backend/AI engineers to define API contracts and ensure robust mobile-friendly behavior (latency, retries, offline/poor-network handling).
- Protect user trust by implementing privacy-conscious permissions, secure storage, and thoughtful edge-case handling.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years building and shipping production mobile apps, ideally consumer-facing products with high polish.
- Experience shipping iOS and Android via one of the following:
- Cross-platform: React Native (preferred) or Flutter, or
- Native: Swift/SwiftUI + Kotlin (or strong experience in one with ability to ramp quickly on the other)
- Proven ability to take products from 0 to 1 (or own major greenfield surfaces) and operate autonomously.
- Strong product judgment: you can make smart tradeoffs under ambiguity and optimize for user experience.
- Comfort working from an existing product (web) and re-architecting where needed rather than doing a 1:1 port.
- Performance-minded, with experience improving startup time, memory usage, animation smoothness, and perceived latency.
Bonus Points
- Experience with audio, speech, or AI-powered apps (recording pipelines, transcription, streaming, on-device constraints).
- Familiarity with App Store / Play Store review processes, privacy policies, permissions, and release best practices.
- Early-stage startup experience (fast iteration, ownership, pragmatic decision-making).
